Disney Music Day

We are very lucky in 1W to have another teacher with us until the end of term; Miss Blaker. She has been teaching us all about 2D and 3D shapes and helped up make up our own rhyming poems.

In our RE lessons we enjoy learning about Jesus and thinking of how we can live our lives the way he did. In 1W we share, care, love, respect and help everybody.

This term we have been learning about the topic of 'Neighbours'. We will talk about how neighbours share God's world.

The Big Question

Who is my neighbour?

Family Activity

This term it would be nice for all of 1W and their families to make an effort to be a good neighbour. You could say hello or good morning to your neighbours, give them a smile and ask them how they are? This simple thing can really brighten up someones day.

Parents you could invite a neighbour in for a cup of tea; a great opportunity to get to know someone new to the area or catch up with old friends.

PE is on a Friday morning so please ensure your child has full kit including red t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps. This term we are lucky to have a professional sports coach.

Book Bags

Your child will read each week with Mrs Stanley and Miss West and their book will be changed whenever it is in school. It is important that you read with your child when they bring home a new book. Please check for any letters that may have been placed in their book bag.

Now that the children are in year 1 they will have a weekly spelling test on a Wednesday. They will bring home their spellings to practice the week before so please support your child with them. We encourage the children to 'do their best' and they are very excited to see how many they have spelled correctly each week.

Water Bottles

Children can bring in a water (and only water) in a named bottle so if they get thirsty they have access to a drink throughout the day.

During the spring term we have been lucky enough to have a new teacher with us until the summer term who has been helping us lots with our work.

We have been writing our own versions of 'Handa's Surprise'  by changing the animals, fruits and names. We have learnt all about Africa and even visited it in the 'Dream Room. Thank you to Jamal and Chanelle who have been telling us lots about Africa to support us with our writing.

We can't wait for all the parents to come and have fun with us doing Easter bingo on Thursday 30th March. We look forward to seeing you there!

Autumn Term 2

This half term we are learning all about dictionaries in English and how to add and subtract in maths.

Our new topic is 'What's the same, what's different?' where we will look at and compare different countries in the world and go on walks around our local area.

We were very lucky to have some special visitors into our class over the past few weeks. We had one of Santa's helpers in to show us how to send messages to Santa. We tweeted him messages and even spoke to him over Skype. We then had a visit from him and his friends.

We also had a lady called Lynsey into class from the company 'Animals Take Over' who brought lots of different animals. We learnt what groups they belonged to and what they like to eat. We held and stocked a hedgehog, lizards, owls and were very brave when the snake came out.

Thank you to the parents/carers who supported their child make a scarecrow. We loved having them as new members of the class!

Autumn Term

Our first half term in 1W has been exciting as we have been getting to know our new teachers, areas of the classroom and how we learn in year 1.

We have been learning numbers up to 100 in maths and have even been spelling them to 20!

In English we are looking at 'stories with familiar settings' and have really enjoyed reading 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt.' We went on a hunt around school because we found paw prints in our classroom!

Our topic has been 'Toys' where we have been playing with and learning about toys from the past. We loved finding out about the toys our parents and grand-parents used to play with. Thank you to those parents who provided us with information; the children found it very funny that Miss Walker also played with those toys.
