Summer Term 1:

Poetry: This term we studied the poet Spike Milligan. We learnt about his life and his fantastic poems. We looked at the Ning Nang None in more detail. We added action to help us remember it then created our own version.

Fiction: We are learning all about play scripts. We are learning ‘The wormy spaghetti’ from The Twits. We will re-tell the script with actions and create a role play as the different character. To gain a good understanding of the Twit we will create character profiles and re-tell story the point of view from their pet monkeys. By the end of term, we will have written are own scripts which will include exciting character, settings, speech and stage directions.

This term in Maths we will be learning about Statistics and measurements (length and perimeter). We will plot and interpret pictograms and bar charts. Then collect data to produce our own bar charts based on our different questions.

Later on in the term, we will learn how to use different equipment to measure such as rulers, metre sticks and tape measures. We will use these skills to add and subtract different lengths including mm, cm and metres.

Our topic this term is ‘A trip around Europe’. We started our topic with a whistle stop tour around the main countries and their capital cities. We look at the different landmarks which make each place unique. We will locate Europe on the map and learn about the human and physical characteristics associated with the different countries.

We in order to explore the countries further, we will take part in food tasting, creating music, art and dancing.

Keep a look out for some fabulous photographs.

Spring term 1 - Topic Wonderful Weather

During our Spring term topic we will be learning all about different types of weather and how the water cycle works as well as learning and using some scientific vocabulary about weather. We will be performing a dance based on Rhianna's Umbrella for parents at the end of this half term. Letters will be sent out as a reminder of this event - it should be great fun for all our year three children!

English - Colour Poems

We have had great fun using our senses of taste, touch, hearing, smell and sight to describe and then create beautiful poems about colours. We used the Dream Room to listen to raging volcanoes for the colour red and  went into the school gardens to use our senses describe green colours. We even enjoyed tasting a variety of foods in red, yellow, green and blue - even blue ice!

Maths - Multiplcation and Division

3EP have been learning their 3 x tables and will go on to learn their 4 and 8 x tables during the Spring Term and will continue until the end of the year. To make this fun we have been using a variety of methods, such as singing along to MathsRoxx songs which are based on real pop songs. The songs are so catchy that we have remembered our times tables very well! We have also been celebrating beating our personal bests when reciting the 3 x tables by slam dunking a basketball hoop that we keep in class. We are very proud of our children's efforts and we hope you are too. Below are some photographs of us enjoying our maths lessons so far...

Spellings are given out every Wednesday, with the children expected to learn their spellings at home in preparation for their test the following Wednesday.
