Welcome to 4J!
In 4J we work hard, help each other and have lots of fun together!
Our teacher is Miss Johnston and our learning support assistants are Mrs Jones, Mrs Bird and Muse.
Our P.E day is Wednesday so please come into school wearing your P.E kit.
Please bring a water bottle into school each day as it can get quite warm in school, and drinking water will really help you concentrate - especially in the afternoons!
We have been discussing how Christians prepare for Christmas. We know the importance of preparing to welcome Jesus into our lives. We explored the meaning behind the advent wreath and made links to scripture as part of our assessment.
English-An outsider narrative and information report.
Our text this half term is 'Leaf'. We have enjoyed exploring an outsider narrative. Watch this space for examples of our published work.
Design and Technology
This half term we will be exploring different joining techniques in textiles. We will be building on our prior learning from year 2, when we made hand puppets. We will explore existing products and plan and make a simple tote bag as part of our 2D shape to 3D product project. Watch this space for pictures of our finished product.
Maths -Addition and Subtraction
In Maths we have enjoyed starting each lesson with a journaling task. We are encouraged to use mathematical vocabulary to estimate, prove or solve a problem as part of our journaling. Journaling allows us to take ownership of our learning and reflect on the 'why' of mathematics and not just the 'how'. We have been using both mental and written methods to add and subtract 4 digit numbers with exchange.
SCIENCE - TEETH & THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Year 4 have learnt the names and functions of our different teeth types. They have a good understanding of how to keep teeth healthy. We have used household items to recreate the digestive system and chart how our food turns to faeces. Read about our new learning in our writings - The Diary of a chocolate cake.
HISTORY - THE ANGLO-SAXONS
Year 4 are enjoying learning about the Anglo-Saxons. We have learnt about the settlement of the Anglo-Saxons, the coming of Christianity and have questioned if King Alfred really deserves the title Great. Throughout, we have evaluated secondary sources and have recognised the difficulties in relying on such limited sources.
PE - Hockey
Year 4 have enjoyed learning how to play Hockey. They have developed their passing, dribbling and scoring techniques. We have played competitively within our classes and then within our Year group.
PSHE - Dental Hygiene & Nutrition
We have built on our knowledge from our Science unit and developed Healthy menus. We have created and eaten healthy salads and have recognised foods and drinks that could aid tooth decay.
