# Maths

This week in maths we are going to spend time revisiting our learning of number bonds within 10. We have explored a systematic approach and will now look at encouraging children to develop a recall of number bonds within 10. For example:

10+0=10

9+1=10

8+2=10

7+3=10

6+4=10

5+5=10

4+6=10

3+7=10

2+8=10

1+9=10

0+10=10.

Watch the teaching videos and help your child to create various number bonds using any items to help them learn to use number bonds within 10. Use toys to help your child understand what each number means (three blocks to represent 3) and talk about when we add numbers above zero together the quantity is getting bigger or it stays the same when you add zero.  Talk about the plus (+) and equals (=) symbol if you can. You can also google Jack Hartman number bonds on youtube and children can take part in the counting rhymes. We are then going to compare number bonds so help your child to understand each number bond and then talk about the difference between these. For example, 3+2=5 which is less than (<)  2+4=6. Children need to complete the number bonds first before they can compare them. Towards the end of the week we will look at adding together. For example, there are 3 ants marching. There are 4 spiders marching. There are how many insects altogether? Support your child as they can count different quantities of toys.
