End Writing Point - To write a third person discovery narrative describing Darwin's visit to the Galapagos Islands.
Today's lesson - Today we will begin to plan and write the second paragraph describing the island scene and environment that Darwin first sees.
Follow the below power point slides to help you plan, generate ideas and see an example of a class second paragraph describing the Galapagos landscape that Darwin arrived at. You could change the underlined words in your writing. The below video will give you idea as to what Galapagos creature Darwin finds at the end of your paragraph which you will describe in more details tomorrow
Science - Material Properties and Changes
For this week we will be dipping into the world of materials as a catch up science topic that was missed during last year's lock down during year 5. Some of the practical activities of separating and mixing might be tricky to look at at home but most resources can hopefully be found in or around the house such as stones, a sieve, sugar to flour. Try your best at home and do what you can as there will also be videos, sheets and power point slides added onto our class pages that can be used if some of the practical activities are tricky to complete.
Lesson Focus - Separating of mixtures using the process of sieving, filtering and evaporation.
Using the below power point slide, video and sheet (or this could be done on a piece of paper) we will be thinking about/practically attempting to separate the below mixture mess consisting of; water, garden peas, steel paperclips, sand, icing sugar, rocks and plastic counters (these materials can be replaced by any other materials if needed).
Challenge - can you use each piece of separating equipment once to remove/separate a different material from the mixture?
Separating Equipment to use if you can - kitchen sieve, slotted spoon with holes, magnet, filter funnel and paper (kitchen towel can work in the same way for filtration - see resource pictures below).
