Religious Education Curriculum
Religious Education Directory (RED):
To Know You More Clearly
At St. Christopher's Catholic Primary School, Religious Education is at the heart of everything we do. We are currently implementing the new Religious Education Directory (RED), To Know You More Clearly, through a phased rollout across the school. The curriculum is now taught in Reception to Year 5.
The RED curriculum places Christ at the centre of learning, helping children grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith while encouraging them to develop a personal relationship with God. Through engaging, thought-provoking lessons, pupils explore Scripture, Catholic tradition, and the Church’s teachings, enabling them to reflect on how faith shapes their lives and the world around them.
Learning is organised into six branches, which pupils revisit and deepen their understanding of throughout their time in school:
- Branch 1: Creation and Covenant
- Branch 2: Prophecy and Promise
- Branch 3: Galilee to Jerusalem
- Branch 4: Desert to Garden
- Branch 5: To the Ends of the Earth
- Branch 6: Dialogue and Encounter
Come and See
Year 6 currently follows the Come and See Religious Education programme. This well-established Catholic RE curriculum enables pupils to explore the teachings of the Catholic Church through meaningful, age-appropriate learning experiences.
Following the Church’s liturgical year, the programme encourages children to deepen their understanding of Scripture, prayer, the sacraments and Christian living. Through discussion, reflection, creative activities and opportunities for prayer, pupils are supported in developing both their religious knowledge and their understanding of how Gospel values can be lived out in everyday life.
Other Faiths
As part of the Religious Education Directory (RED), pupils learn about other world faiths with respect and understanding. We study two faiths: Judaism and Islam.
