Phonics

Phonics is taught daily in school and here at St Christophers we use a scheme called Read Write Inc (RWI). RWI is a structured and systematic approach which is designed to create fluent readers and willing writers. Children will gain confidence speaking aloud by practising to read letters (or groups of letters) and saying the sounds which they represent.  It is vital these phonemes (sounds) are pronounced correctly.  Children will read words by blending the sounds together.

Children will be given home reading books after they have read a particular book several times during their RWI lessons. This will either be every 3 or 5 every days, depending on their group level.  Your child's group teacher will let your child know when to return their book.

E books are also allocated regularly to the Oxford Owl website and are available to read by logging in.  All children should have a log in as this is the same as previous years.  If you are unsure or don't have a log in please let me know.

For further information regarding RWI visit www.oxfordowl.co.uk

Homework Menu

Every half term, a homework menu will be shared, with a selection of tasks for the children to engage in and complete at home. These will be tasks relating to school learning from across all areas of the curriculum. Children can work on as many of the activities as they wish, but it is requested that they complete at least one each half term and hand it in or share on class dojos. All completed work will be celebrated.

Spellings

Spellings will be given out each Monday and children should practice these at home (and in school) as much as possible throughout the week.  We will have a short informal test on a Monday afternoon.

Statutory Spelling List for year 3 and 4

https://themumeducates.com/year-3-common-exception-words-free-worksheets/

Spelling Shed, Maths Shed and TT Rockstars.

Your child will be given a password to access this. The passwords will enable them to log onto the spelling shed, maths shed and TT Rockstars. We will set a variety of fun activities on this site for you to share at home with your child.

Water Bottles

There are studies to say, that drinking water and being well hydrated, improves the mood, memory, and attention in children. We would ask that you send in a water bottle for your child each day. We request that your child brings in water only and not juice or fizzy drinks. The children will have access to their water throughout the day.
