PE

PE is every week (Wednesday). Children must wear their full P.E kit to school on these days.

Please ensure that your child's school uniform, coat, PE kit and PE bag is clearly labelled with their name. Thank you!

 

Homework Menu

Every half term, a homework menu will be given out with a selection of tasks to be completed, across all areas of the curriculum. It is your choice how many you complete, however you must do at least one and hand it in by the end of the half term. Your completed work will be celebrated.

 

Book Bags

Your child will get a book to read at home on a Friday, which is to be returned the following Friday.

Please ensure that your child brings their books to school in their book bag.

They will also read with an adult daily.

Spring 1

English:

 

The Rhythm of the Rain.

 

In Spring Term 1, we will be looking at the book - The Rhythm of the Rain. This is a fantastic book with exceptional vocabulary that the children can be inspired by! 

 

In the first 3 weeks, the children will be writing a setting narrative inspired by our book for this term. After this, the children will be given the opportunity to write an information leaflet which is also linked to our book 'The Rhythm of the Rain'.

Multiplication and Division

This term we will be looking at multiplication and division. We will be covering the following: 

  1. 2's , 4's and 8 times tables. 
  2. Compare multiplication and division statements.
  3. Use known multiplication facts to solve related calculations and problems.
  4. Multiply 2-digit numbers by a 1-digit number – no exchange.
  5. Multiply 2-digit by 1-digit numbers – exchange.
  6. Divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.
  7. Divide 100 into 2,4,5 and 10 equal pieces.
  8. Divide with remainders
  9. Explore multiplication and division involving scaling (bigger/smaller).
  10. Explore how many possible answers can be found.

 

 

Science

This term we will be learning all about plants. We will be identifying and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers. Exploring the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from soil, and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant. Investigating the way in which water is transported within plants and exploring the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

Maths

Addition and Subtraction

This term we will be looking at Addition and Subtraction, we will learn how to ..

  • Add and subtract numbers mentally.
  • Add and subtract number with up to 3 –digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction.
  • Estimate the answer to a calculation and use inverse operations to check answers.
  • Solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition and subtraction.

RE:

Advent: Visitors

We will think about the demands and joys of visitors and we will look closely at the 4 weeks of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas.                                                                        

Big Question: Are visitors always welcome?

Science

This term will be learning all about Rocks and Fossils. We discover the great 19th century fossil hunter Mary Anning.

History

This term will we be exploring what life was like in the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age.

Autumn Term 1

 

English: The Iron man

This term we will be looking at the book The Iron Man written by Ted Hughes. We will use a 4 step sequence; immerse, Analyse, Plan and Write to write our own threat narrative and explanation.                                                                                                                                   Children will use opportunities such as drama and short-burst writing to explore the themes, as well as practising their basic skills.

 

 

Whole Class Reading
In year 3 we enjoy daily whole class reading sessions, following steps to read. Our texts link well with our other curriculum studies. This half term we are reading a wide selection of fiction, non fiction and poetry about Forces. We know that our reading will support our studies in Science and provide us with a wider range of knowledge to vocabulary to use in our own creative writing based on the text 'The Iron Man’

 

We also have an ongoing class reader. This half term we are enjoying...

'The Wild Robot’ by Peter Brown.

Maths

Place Value

This term we will be looking at Place Value. We will be comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000. Reading and writing number up to 1000 using both numerals and words and we will be counting in multiple of 50s and 100s. 

We will also start Addition and Subtraction. We will be learning lots of different mental and written methods to add and subtract numbers up to 3 digits.

 

 

 

 

RE:

Topic 1:Homes

Home: 

We explore how God is present in every home. This is expressed through the love that binds the family together within the home through the good times and the home.

Big Question What does home mean to you? How is God present in my life?

 

RE: Faith Week- Judaism

Judaism: 

We will explore the inside of a Synagogue and the many internal features that represent the teachings and beliefs of the religion such as The Ark, The Ner Tamid (eternal light), The Siddur, The Bimah, and The Torah Scrolls. 

We will explore worship in the Synagogue.

 

Topic 2: Promises.

Promises:

We explore the promises made at baptism and confirmation and how they are the call to a new way of life. We look at how the church welcomes us into God’s family.

Big Question: What does it mean to make a promise? How can we help others keep promises?

 

 

Science

This term will be learning all about Forces and Magnets. We will also look at the work of Isaac Newton.

Geography

This term will we be learning about counties in the UK, we will compare Merseyside to The West Midlands based on their human and physical features.
