Below you will find lots of information about our class, including what we have been up to. From March 8th 2021, when all children returned to school, class teachers will be providing work via Class Dojo if children are isolating at home. By clicking on the Learning from Home star you will still find a weekly timetable and other links to support learning

Summer Term  


We are really looking forward to all of the learning that we will be doing this term.  

Maths will be based around basic skills and written calculations for multiplication and division.  



In English we will be reading the story Jemmy Button,  we will write letters and enjoy writing their own return story. 

In Science, we will be learning all about Forces and magnets and in Geography will we be learning about counties in the UK, we will compare Merseyside to Cumbria based on their humanand phsyical features.

Please note that our PE day this term will be on a Monday so please make sure you wear your PE Kit to school on this day.   


Home reading is vitally important so please read as much as possible at home and return your books to school on a Friday

They will be changed and send home again on Monday. 


We will update the website with any work and photographs so please keep checking to see what we have been doing in class.

Year 3 and your families.

We are so sorry not to be with you at the moment. Please go onto the isolating at home star. If you go to the rainbows for the Spring term you will find lots of activities to keep you busy. In the topic section for this week there are lots of lovely things to do, based on our theme of HOPES AND DREAMS. There are also some English and Maths activities.

Autumn Reading Bingo

Below you will find lots of information about our class, including what we have been up to. If you are having to stay at home due to self-isolation, please click on the isolating at home star, which will take you to a new page containing activities that will help you to keep pace with your class. They cover the key learning points of the week and should be completed along with home reading, spelling and times table practice. 


PE is every week (Thursday). Children must wear their full P.E kit to school on these days.

Please ensure that your child's school uniform, coat, PE kit and PE bag is clearly labelled with their name. Thank you!


Homework Menu

Every half term, a homework menu will be given out with a selection of tasks to be completed, across all areas of the curriculum. It is your choice how many you complete, however you must do at least one and hand it in by the end of the half term. Your completed work will be celebrated.


Book Bags

Your child will get a book to read at home on Mondays, which is to be returned on Fridays. Please ensure that your child brings their books to school in their book bag. They will also read with an adult daily.

Autumn Term 2


English- The Iron man

This term we will be looking at the book The Iron Man written by Ted Hughes. We will use a 4 step sequence; immerse, Analyse, Plan and Write to write our own threat narrative and explanation. 


Word- Formation of nouns using a rang of prefixes. 

Sentence - Express time, place and cause using conjunctions. 

Text - Present perfect form of verbs. 

Punctuations -  Use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks and apostrophers to mark where letters are missing in spelling and to mark singular possession in nouns.

Children will use opportunities such as drama and short-burst writing to explore the themes, as well as practising their basic skills.


Maths- Addition and Subtraction

This term we will be looking at Addition and Subtraction, we will learn how to ..

  • Add and subtract numbers mentally.
  • Add and subtract number with up to 3 –digits, using formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction.
  • Estimate the answer to a calculation and use inverse operations to check answers.
  • Solve problems, including missing number problems, using number facts, place value and more complex addition and subtraction.


RE: Judaism & Advent.


We will explore the inside of a Synagogue and the many internal features that represent the teachings and beliefs of the religion such as The Ark, The Ner Tamid (eternal light), The Siddur, The Bimah, and The Torah Scrolls. 

We will explore worship in the Synagogue.

Autumn Term 1


English- Linked to Topic themes

This term we will be looking at a wide range of texts linked to our fortnightly topic themes. These include; The Day The Crayons Quit by Oliver Jeffers (Colour), The Tin Forest by Helen Ward (The Environment) and Thankful By Eileen Spinelli (Harvest). 

Children will use opportunities such as drama and short-burst writing to explore the themes, as well as practising their basic skills.

Maths- Place Value & Addition and Subtraction

This term we will be looking at Place Value. We will be comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000. Reading and writing number up to 1000 using both numerals and words and we will be counting in multiple of 50s and 100s. 

We will also start Addition and Subtraction. We will be learning lots of different mental and written methods to add and subtract numbers up to 3 digits.

RE: Homes & Promises.


We explore how God is present in every home. This is expressed through the love that binds the family together within the home through the good times and the home.

Big Question What does home mean to you? How is God present in my life?


We explore the promises made at baptism and confirmation and how they are the call to a new way of life. We look at how the church welcomes us into God’s family.

Big Question:What does it mean to make a promise? How can we help others keep promises?


Topic- Topic themes

This term we will be completing fortnightly topic themes. 

These include;

Colour:We will look at primary and secondary colours and we will study the Artist Jackson Pollock.

The Environment:We will start by looking at all the things we waste (water, electricity, food, clothes etc) We will then look at the 3 R’s : Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. 

Super Scientist: Our focus is Animals including humans. We will explore animals and their off spring, life cycles and ways we can keep healthy through exercise and healthy eating.

Harvest:We will create and decorate thumb clay jars and each day add things we are thankful for.
