Children in Year 3 will still be swimming on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that children wear a full costume and shorts that are no longer than the knee. Hair should be tied up and no jewellery to be worn. A swim cap is also recommended. PE will continue to be on a Wednesday afternoon.
This term we will continue to write our own play scripts and perform them to each other using props and additional characters.
We will then be focusing on Diary Entries. We will use the move 'Sing' as a stimulus for our writing. We will write our diaries from the point of view of the many great characters. By exploring their personalities and emotions we will write a two diary entries from their auditions and the day of their final performances.
Children will also be asked to create their own diaries at home to bring in and share all their exciting news over the next few weeks.
This term will we be focusing on fractions, we will take these small steps to gain an understanding of unit and non unit fractions.

MATHS PARTY DAY!
Today, we looked at the work of Katherine Johnston. We learnt about her life and why she is such an important mathematical figure.
Her work inspired us to create our own rockets. We had to use our prior knowledge of shapes such as cones and cyclinders to create a suitable rockets. We then put our measurment skills to the test when went we outside to BLAST them.
We finished our day with a party- we had lots of tasty treat and of course played some maths related games.

Our theme for the start of this term is Choices: Reconciliation.
Our big question is ‘What helps me to choose well?’
Key Vocab: reconciliation, confession, conscience, sorrow, penance, sin, choice, consequences, repentance, penitent, absolution.
'The Human Body'
We will start the term will be studying the poet Spike Milligan- we will learn about his life and his famous poems. We will look closely at ‘The Land of Bumbley Boo’ and ‘The Ning Nang Nong’ in order to create our own nonsense poems.
We started our new topic 'Playscripts' with an exciting Hook lesson- we watch a performance of 'The Twits' and had lots of treats..
We will use The Twits ‘The Wormy Spaghetti’ as our class text- we will create story maps and add actions to help us remember all the key parts.
We will come up with our own tricks to play on others to create our own play scripts.
We will end by performing them to the other year 3 class.
In maths this term we will look at different types of measurements (m, cm and mm). We will start by looking at length and perimeter. We will have lots of fun explore different objects around our school. We will then put our number skills to the test by comparing, ordering adding and subtracting length. As we move through the term, we will look at volume and capacity and properties of different 2D and 3D shapes.
Our theme for the start of this term is Pentecost.
Our big question is ‘What is the use of energy?’
For the explore section we will look at the qualities of wind and fire..
We will test the power of wind by taking balloons outside to see what happens when the wind blows. Then we will look at the dangers of fire and we will have a mini fire drill to talk about the importance of keeping ourselves safe in school.
During Reveal will we look at the story of Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We will finish with a collective worship to remember our learning and rejoice in the knowledge we have learnt.
Our new topic this term is ‘A Trip around Europe’. We will start with an exciting hook lesson in the dream room where we will jump on a plane and travel around the globe stopping and different countries along the way. We will look at famous landmarks and even get to taste some tradition foods.
In preparatin for the exciting chamption league final, we will do a city comparison between Liverpool and Madrid.
Throughout the topic we will be researching key physical and human features to create our own fact files about European countries.
During this term we are studyng the famous author Roald Dahl we looked at his life and his famous books to create biographies.
We will also celebrate World Book Day, we will have lots of fun sharing our favourite stories and have lot of book themed fun!

Topic- Stone Age to Iron Age.
During this topic we will look at changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will use historical enquiry to answer these key questions:
Is it true to say that Stone Age man was just a simple hunter gatherer only interested in food and shelter?
How much did life change when man learned how to farm?
What can we learn about life in the Stone Age from a study of Skara Brae?
Why did they build Stonehenge?
What was life like in the Iron Age and how do we know?
Who are the Druids?

We will also have some more fun in DT. We will create moving poster all about the changes from The Stone Age to the Iron Age.

Spring Term 1.
English- Mystery Stories.
Poetry: Our poetry unit is colour poems. We will be putting our 5 sense to the test by thinking about what different colours feel, sound, look, taste and smell like. We will use google classroom to publish our poems and create a collage out of different materials to match our colour poems.
Fiction: We will be learning the story 'The Nightmare Man' through actions and drama activities. We will use this to create our own Mystery stories with exciting setting and lots of tense moments. We will be learning how to use dramatic sentence starters and adjective to bring our stories to life.
Maths- Multiplication and Division
During Maths this term, we will be learning our 3s,4s, and 8 timetable through songs, chants and lots of practical activities. We will have a timetable challenge every week to put our new knowledge to the test.

Topic- Amazing Weather.
In this amazing topic we will look at different climate zones and how that changes the weather in different parts of the world then create weather reports. We will study the water cycle and create our own detail diagrams to share. We even conduct mini experiments to create some amazing weather such as rainbows, rain and fog.
In science lesson will be learning about Shadows and light and creating our own puppet shows.

Autumn Term 2.
English- Information text
Non Fiction: We will be learning the report 'Frost Dragon' through actions and drama activities. We will use this to create our own reports all about dragons. We will look closely at how to use informative subheading such as food, habitat and description.
Maths- Addition and Subtraction
This term we will be continuing are work on addition and subtract. We will use our mental and written methods to solve word problems. We will look at estimation and inverse and how we can use them both to check if our answer are correct.
Topic- The Romans.
In this exciting topic we will study The Roman era. We will look closely at the the Roman Army and how people lived during the Roman times. We will learn all about Emperor Claudius and think about the reasons for his invasion.
In science lesson will be learning about forces and magnets.
During this topic, we will be going on a fantastic trip to the Dewa museum.

Autumn Term 1.
English- Myths and Legends.
Poetry: We will be learning about Haiku and Tanaka poem by exploring syllable patterns. We will base our poems on mythical creatures and perform them to an audience.
Fiction: We will be learn the myth of Pandora’s Box through actions and drama activities. We will use this to create our own Myths and Legends.
Maths- Place Value
This term we will be looking at Place Value. We will be comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000. Reading and writing number up to 1000 using both numerals and words and we will be counting in multiple of 50s and 100s. We will also start Addition and Subtraction. We will be learning lots of different mental and written methods to add and subtract numbers up to 3 digits.
We explore how God is present in every home. This is expressed through the love that binds the family together within the home through the good times and the home.

Promises- Promises made a Baptism.
We explore the promises made at baptism and confirmation and how they are the call to a new way of life. We look at how the church welcomes us into God’s family.

How can we help others keep promises?
Topic- The United Kingdom.
In topic we will study The United Kingdom. We will look closely at the geographical regions and identity human and physical characteristics and how some aspects have changed over time. We will also learn about the rivers from in the UK and look closely at the journey of a river.
